What is SecureCode™?

MasterCard®SecureCode™ is a simple and secure way to pay online. Adding a password to your existing SBGroup  Maestro/MasterCard® Debit card issued by SBGroup. SecureCode™ enhances your existing MasterCard® account by protecting you against unauthorized use of your SBGroup Debit Card to make purchase over the internet. It’s easy to activate your existing SBGroup  MasterCard® card, and it’s free.


How does SecureCode™work?

SecureCode™ provides you with the ability to attach a password to your existing card to protect your online transactions, just like your PIN at an ATM. Here's how it works:

1. Select the goods or services you want from a SecureCode™ online store and proceed to the payment page.

2. Enter the payment details requested including your SBGroup  Debit Card number.

3. The online store connects with SBGroup 3D Secure Service  site to check whether your card is secured with SecureCode™.

4. A SecureCode™ pop-up window will appear on your computer screen showing the merchant name, amount, date, your SBGroup  Debit Card number and the SBGroup welcome message.

5. You then check that the details mentioned on the page are correct, and enter your password. SBGroup will then confirm your identity to the merchant.

6. Your payment will be authorized, the transaction will be completed as usual and your order will be placed.

How does SecureCode™ protect me?

Since your SBGroup  Debit Card is protected by your personal password, only you can use your SBGroup  Debit Card to make purchases online.

How do I register my SBGroup  Debit Card for the facility?

First you need to register your SBGroup Debit Card and your Mobile Number through any of the State Bank Group ATMs by selecting ’Registration for Mobile SMS/Secure code’. It is mandatory to have the mobile number registered through any of the SB Group ATMs.
You can register for the Secure Code service through the SBGroup website www.onlinesbi.com or you can do so while shopping also.

Can I register with my existing SBGroup  Debit Card?

Yes, you can register with MasterCard® SecureCode™ using your existing SBGroup  Debit Card. You don't need to apply for a new card.

What do I do when I’m issued a new card?

If your new SBGroup  Debit Card is a renewal card (same number as the old one) you don’t have to do anything to stay registered.

If, however, your SBGroup  Debit Card number changes, you will need to re-register in the program with your new card number & details.

Can I register with more than one State Bank Group  card?

Yes, you can register with any of your SBGroup  Debit Card.

Can I register my non-MasterCard payment cards with SecureCode™?

Currently, SecureCode™ is only offered to protect MasterCard® debit cards. For other cards, please check with the relevant service provider.

Do I need any special equipment or software?

All you need is an Internet connection and Internet Explorer 7.0 and above. To find out whether your browser is compatible, go to the "Help" menu in the upper right of your browser and select the "About" option. It should tell you what version is installed on your computer.

After I register, how long does it take for SecureCode™ to start working?

The added protection of SecureCode™ is available as soon as your registration is confirmed successful by SBGroup .

What if I need help to register my SBGroup  MasterCard® Debit Card?

Where can I shop with SecureCode™?

Look for the SecureCode™ mark on participating online stores or check the list of current participants on your local MasterCard website.

How will the online store know that I have signed up with SecureCode™?

Participating online stores will automatically recognize your SBGroup  Debit Card number if it is registered.

What should I do if I am shopping online and I don’t get asked for my SecureCode™ password?

You can simply enter your payment details as normal and complete your transaction. It may mean that the merchant is not yet enrolled in the SecureCode™ service. It is recommended that you transact online with trusted retailers only.

What if I forget my password?

If you forget your password, you may reset your password (create a new password) after entering your debit card number, and answering the security question that was set by you during registration on the State Bank Group  website.

If customer enters wrong password more than 3 times, his card would be deactivated or blocked during transaction. It will be activated or unblocked in the midnight at 12:00 am.

What do I do if I think someone has my password?

Contact SBGroup  customer service by phone or by email or you may visit the SBGroup  website to change your password immediately.

Can I get the benefit of SecureCode™ security at online stores that are not participating in the service?

No. However a number of online stores have the service available to them. In the meantime, if an online store you trust is not yet participating, follow safe shopping tips to complete your purchases online.

What happens if I shop at a SecureCode™ merchant website while I’m not registered for this feature?

You will be prompted for online registration for SecureCode™ during shopping.

If you hold a SBGroup  Debit Card, you would need to authenticate yourself with Debit Card number, mobile number, and then create your personal 3D Secure  password. Thereafter, you can continue shopping on the merchant website. If you decide not to register immediately and cancel the registration then you will be allowed to proceed with online transaction on your SBGroup Debit Card.

What should I do if the Merchant is not participating in 3D Secure Service?

RBI has made it mandatory for the banks to give second line of authentication for all e-commerce transactions. Hence the banks can decide to decline the transactions if the Merchant is not participating in 3D Secure Service to protect the customer and adhere to RBI mandate. It is recommended that you transact online with trusted retailers only.
